Coming Soon: Sony FE 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS and FE 85mm f/1.8 Lenses


Today, Sony introduced two new lenses and a flash unit for E-mount interchangeable lens cameras.

sonylenses_feb2017_2First, a new entry into the flagship G Master series — the FE 100mm f/2.8 STF GM OSS.  With Sony’s new Smooth Trans Focus (STF) design, this full-frame prime lens is specifically engineered to produce super-smooth bokeh with incredible image resolution, ideal for portraiture.  It features an 11-bladed aperture, supports both contrast AF and focal-plane phase detection AF, and it utilizes a direct drive Super Sonic Motor for exceptional autofocus.  It is dust and moisture-resistant, and features built-in optical image stabilization (OSS) as well.

The FE 100mm F2.8 STF OSS GM will be available at this March for about $1,500.

sonylenses_feb2017_3Next, full-frame E-mount shooters get an 85mm lens that won’t break the bank!  The new FE 85mm f/1.8 is an excellent lightweight mid-telephoto prime with the perfect focal length for portraits.  With a 9-blade aperture, it produces smooth, natural bokeh, and sharpness is exceptional.  It is also dust and moisture-resistant, with solid construction and a smooth, responsive focus ring.

The FE 85mm f/1.8 will be available at in March for approx. $600.

sonylenses_feb2017_4Finally, Sony also introduced a new flash unit, the HVL-F45RM.  This flash can be controlled wirelessly via Sony’s radio-controlled lighting system (with the FA-WRC1M controller and FA-WRR1 receiver) up to 98.5 feet (30m) away.  Designed with the A7 series in mind, this flash offers a guide number up to 45, and it is compatible with high speed sync (HSS).  Battery life goes up to 210 bursts, and of course you get full tilt and swivel maneuverability.  It’s dust and moisture-resistant, too, and it features a large LCD display and revamped menu system for better usability.

The HVL-F45RM will be available at in May 2017 for approx. $400.
